Laminitis Update

Horses are beautiful animals…

Horses are undeniably amazing and beautiful creatures that no one wants to see suffer, but horses aren’t the only animals that suffer from this disease.

Laminitis is a disease that affects the hooves’ of animals and is mostly found in horses and cattle. Symptoms and Signs include foot tenderness progressing to inability to walk, increased digital pulses, increased temperature in the hooves, increase intra-laminae swelling, tremors while standing and inability to stand; must lay down. Cattle and horses that cannot stand cannot eat and without care, the animal would literally starve to death.

This disease is the second leading cause of death in cattle and horses and once in the severe stage, most animals are euthanized.  Famous horses euthanized because of laminitis are Secretariat and Barbaro.

The length of time with conventional treatment for this disease is six months to a year of very aggressive medical management which includes anti-inflammatory/analgesics, vasodilators, cryotherapy and physical therapeutics along with requiring a Farrier to trim and balance the Palmar Angle

Even after taking all these conventional measures, there are still no guarantees that the animal will ever completely recover.  The costs to treat this disease with conventional treatment ranges from $1,000 to $12,000 dollars and still, some 70% of cattle and horses have recurrent bouts and a good deal are euthanized.

In 2007 by design, fate, or law of probability; GMT designed a specific protocol for cattle and horses suffering from laminitis.  An employee of GMT who reasoned that if this worked for inflammation, it might also work on his Paso Fino horse suffering from laminitis at the time. Thus marked the beginning of testing the PCI-1 for Laminitis, which was modified for veterinarian use on horses suffering from different degrees of Laminitis and Founders Disease.  Founders is the culmination of laminitis whereby the pedal bone detaches from the laminae while rotating and protruding through the bottom of the sole and dislodging from the hoof; a death sentence for any animal.

Much to the surprise of everyone, the results were unparalleled in comparison to any current form of treatment.  Not only did the horses recover much quicker than with conventional treatment, but they suffered no noticeable negative aftereffects in their gate or posture. It appeared complete recovery had been achieved.  It was noted that if treatments were commenced within the first week of lameness a horse would make a complete recovery with 3-6 treatment within 5 to 10 days at a cost of just $300 to $600 dollars.

Horses tested with full-blown Laminitis (aka “Founders Disease”) with rotation and perforation (see images on this page of horse treated with GMT’s UVBI PCI-1)  Treatment lasted only 3 months at which point the horse was fully recovered. Due to the progressed nature of this horse’s illness, 30 treatments were conducted at a cost of only $2250.

Veterinarians were amazed at the results and GMT had opened another industry where PC-1 treatment can do so much good (link to the video on Antioquena trotting).

At the time when this treatment was provided to Antioqueña, GMT’s human-sized kits were used to treat her. The amazing recovery of this beautiful animal awakened the need for us to develop larger sized Kits for us to be able to deliver the same GMT PCI-1 treatment protocols to animals that are much larger in size and weight. As a result, our company has since then developed a cattle and equine sized kit to provide our treatment protocols on a larger scale for these gentle-giant sized patients.

Scheduled as part of our upcoming Clinical Trials, is a Government Approved Controlled Clinical Trial on Equines and Cattle with Laminitis utilizing the GMT PCI-1 Therapeutics as the effective agent of treatment.  This trial will enable GMT to offer this form of treatment not only for Laminitis but also for other infectious diseases in animals worldwide.

These images underline the importance for us to complete our clinical research and procure cures.  Our mission is to provide cures for these diseases, we hope to inspire and emphasize the importance of this to you.

This video provides a review of the treatment given by GlobalMed Technologies to the horse mentioned above named “Antioqueña” and may include some graphic images prior to treatment using the PCI-1.

Treatment of Horse with Severe Case of Laminitis

Antioquena Before PCI Treatment

This is a mare that suffered from a severe case of Laminitis, which began soon-after a 12-hour parade walk in which she primarily walked on top of paved roads. Due to the severity of her case, she required 30 PCI-I treatments, after which, all of her Laminitis issues were gone and she has not experienced a Laminitis recurrence since.
